Acclaimed as an “interesting young singer" by the St. Petersburg Times, soprano Sara Oettinger has been much in demand along the East Coast. This fall, she will next be seen as the title role in Boston Opera Collaborative's production of Suor Angelica. Shortly thereafter, she will be undertaking the role of Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Thief with Opera by the Bay. Ms. Oettinger has been seen most recently as First Lady in BOC's Mainstage performance of The Magic Flute, as well as the Marschallin in an excerpt from Der Rosenkavalier with OBTB. As an artist with the Intermezzo Young Artist Program, she had the pleasure of reprising the role of Miss Wordsworth in Britten’s Albert Herring under the baton of J. David Jackson of the Metropolitan Opera, and with the direction of Andrew Chown of New York City Opera. Other recent opera engagements include Musetta with Riverside Theater Works and Boston Opera Collaborative (BOC) in their joint production of La Bohème, as well as the cover for the title role of Iphigénie in the BOC's inaugural production of Iphigénie en Aulide. Additional operatic roles performed include Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus) and Moth (A Midsummer Night's Dream). Partial roles performed include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Gilda (Rigoletto), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), and Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos). In addition, Ms. Oettinger has been a featured soloist for the “Giants of Composition” lecture series for the Elderhostel Society of Boston, the Park Street Players, BOC’s concert series at Church of St. John the Evangelist, the Festa della Repubblica Italiana, and Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Cambridge. In 2005, she was a featured soloist for several performances in Graz, Austria, as an American Institute of Musical Studies festival artist.

A native of North Carolina, Ms. Oettinger holds an M.M. in Vocal Performance from the Boston Conservatory and a B.M. in Vocal Performance from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and served for two seasons as the Artistic Staffing and Auditions Chairperson for Boston Opera Collaborative.
