Recently hailed as a "dark, husky [and] rapacious Carmen" by Mark Kroll of The Boston Musical Intelligencer, mezzo-soprano Brooke Larimer is rapidly establishing herself on the Boston music scene.

In addition to her recent run of Carmen (Carmen) with Boston Opera Collaborative, her 2008-2009 season included performances as Zita in Gianni Schicchi and Bradamante in Alcina also with Boston Opera Collaborative; Jenny Diver in Commonwealth Opera’s production of The Threepenny Opera; as Mrs. Soames in the New England premiere of Ned Rorem’s acclaimed Our Town with Raylynmor Opera; and as Mistress of the Novices in Suor Angelica with Lakes Region Opera Company. Her 2008-2009 concert engagements include performances of Messiah with Commonwealth Opera; “La Donna/La Dame” with Cappella Clausura; and Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit and Schutz’s Historia der Geburt Jesu Christi, with Brookline Chorus, where she was mezzo-soprano Artist-in-Residence.

Additional recent appearances include several concerts with Natchez Festival of Music where she was a Young Artist (2008); the world premiere of Peter McMurray's opera A Rooster for Asclepius with Juventas! New Music Ensemble and OperaHub in which she portrayed Crito and Apollo; alto soloist in the world premiere of Brandon Grimes' Mass for a Dawning Age with Quincy Choral Society; and Seconda Contadina in Le nozze di Figaro with New Jersey Opera Theatre Summer Institute.

Ms. Larimer includes a wide range of roles in her operatic repertoire. Favorite roles include Witch and Mother (Hansel and Gretel) Phobia in Seymour Barab’s Pizza con funghi, Second and Third Ladies (The Magic Flute), and Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas). She has performed with Granite State Opera, New Jersey Opera Theatre Summer Institute, Cappella Clausura, Raylynmor Opera, Commonwealth Opera, Opera by the Bay, Boston Opera Collaborative, Bronx Opera and OperaTunity Performing Arts Center.

An avid concert singer, Ms. Larimer has performed Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus, Handel’s Messiah, selections from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wünderhorn and Rückert Lieder, Shostakovich’s Five Satires, excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Elijah, The Salzinnes Antiphonal and Vivaldi’s Gloria.

A native Vermonter, Brooke lives in Somerville, Massachusetts with her husband, Jeff, basset hound, Sandy, and fat orange cat, T.C. She is an alumna of Vanderbilt University and The Boston Conservatory and currently studies with Dr. Rebecca Folsom.
