American soprano, Erin Holmes, is recognized for her integrity as a musician and as a masterful, articulate, and versatile singing-actress. A native of Baltimore, MD, Erin is equally at home with both classical concert music and operatic repertoire. She has appeared with Opera Boston, Opera Providence, New England Light Opera, Longwood Opera, MetroWest Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, Opera del West, New England Conservatory Opera Theatre, and Washington D.C.’s Strathmore Hall Opera Series.
As a recitalist, Erin has performed classical works ranging from Mozart, Handel, Fauré, Brahms, and Debussy to 20th-century composers such as Messager, Britten, de Falla, Bolcom, and Garwood. Past opera and musical theatre roles have included Gretel in "Hänsel und Gretel", La Princesse and La Chauve-souris in "L’enfant et les sortileges", Bridget Booth in Ward's "The Crucible", Muriel in Larry Bell’s world premiere of "Holy Ghosts", Rosemary in Hoiby’s "Summer and Smoke", Jeannette in Edwin Penhorwood’s "Too Many Sopranos", the Narrator in Robert Kapilow’s children’s opera "Gertrude McFuzz", and Mrs. Nordstrom in Sondheim’s "A Little Night Music". Additional highlights include partial roles as Auretta in "L’Oca del Cairo", Mustardseed in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream", Blanche in "Dialogues of the Carmelites", and Adina in "L’Elisir d’amor", and Paquette in "Candide".
Erin was the recipient of a Merit Scholarship from the New England Conservatory and has enjoyed numerable competition successes in the state of Maryland. Erin has also performed on several occasions with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, most recently in their Holiday Spectacular concerts. While living in Madrid, Spain in 2006, she was featured as a singer and music teacher in the nationally televised Spanish television program, Padres en apuros. In July 2008, Erin made her European debut performing the role of L’Aurora and covering the role of Clori in Francesco Cavalli’s Baroque opera, "L’Egisto", at the Teatro della Bicchieraia in Arezzo, Italy. Miss Holmes will be a returning ensemble member in Opera Boston’s world premiere of Zhou Long’s "Madame White Snake" and Offenbach’s "La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein" in spring 2010.
Along with singing and teaching, Erin’s fluency in Spanish enables her to serve as a diction coach to many Boston-area singers. Erin holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory.
