Soprano Erin M. Smith has recently relocated to Boston after completing her studies in the Mid-West. Recent engagements include the world premiere of I Am Not Yours: a song cycle for soprano and string quartet by Timothy A. Davis with the Boston New Music Initiative and Geraldine in A Hand of Bridge with Boston Metro Opera.
Ms. Smith was praised for her “rich and beautiful voice” (Petoskey News-Review) in her portrayal of Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Bay View Music Festival in 2009. She has been a frequent Young Artist with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, most recently covering Despina in Cosí fan Tutte and also singing Fiametta in The Gondoliers and Little Red in the children’s opera Little Red’s Most Unusual Day. Other favorite operatic roles include Alice Ford in Falstaff, Corilla in Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma!, Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Mrs. Segstrom in A Little Night Music, and Edith in The Pirates of Penzance to name a few.
In 2008, Erin traveled to Milan Italy to sing Donna Elvira in a Don Giovanni master class with acclaimed Swiss director Georges Delnon. Erin also traveled to Europe in 2006 when she was awarded the Diether Haenicke scholarship to study at the American Institute for Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria.
Erin’s concert repertoire includes Alban Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder, Debussy’s Ariettes Oubliées and Fêtes Galantes (I), Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate and The Terraces of Purgatory by Timothy A. Davis.
Erin holds a Bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Western Michigan University in Music Education and Vocal Performance. Erin earned a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Iowa in 2009, where she was the soprano recipient of the Walker Graduate Quartet Scholarship.
Erin is thrilled to be a new member of Boston Opera Collaborative. She is looking forward to performing Pamina in The Magic Flute with MetroWest Opera this spring.
