Sara Oettinger, soprano

Praised as “interesting young singer," soprano Sara Oettinger is swiftly establishing herself as an artist in-demand in the Boston area. Her 2008-2009 season appearances include: Suor Angelica and First Lady in Boston Opera Collaborative’s productions of Suor Angelica and The Magic Flute; Miss Pinkerton with Opera by the Bay’s production of The Old Maid in the Thief; and the Marschallin in an excerpt from Der Rosenkavalier with Opera by the Bay’s Spring Gala. This summer, she was featured in several performances with New England Light Opera in their summer concert series, as well as Vanessa in an excerpt from Barber’s Vanessa with The Coaching Divas Opera Studio. This fall she was heard in recital at Christ the King Church in Cambridge, MA, featuring the works of Dvorák, Barber, Hogan, and Mendelssohn. Upcoming 2010 engagements include Floria Tosca (cover) in Tosca with Lowell House Opera and the Witch/Gertrude in Hansel and Gretel with Opera by the Bay.

As an artist with the Intermezzo Young Artist Program, Ms. Oettinger had the pleasure of reprising the role of Miss Wordsworth in Britten’s Albert Herring under the baton of J. David Jackson of the Metropolitan Opera, and with the stage direction of Andrew Chown of New York City Opera. Other opera engagements include Musetta with Riverside Theater Works and Boston Opera Collaborative in their joint production of La Bohème, and the title role cover of Iphigénie in the BOC's inaugural production of Iphigénie en Aulide. As a merit scholarship recipient at The Boston Conservatory, Ms. Oettinger performed Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus and Moth in A Midsummer Night's Dream with The Boston Conservatory Opera Theater. Other roles performed include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Gilda in Rigoletto, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos.

In addition, Ms. Oettinger has been a featured soloist for the “Giants of Composition” lecture series for the Elderhostel Society of Boston, the Park Street Players, the Church of St. John the Evangelist concert series, the Festa della Repubblica Italiana, and Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Cambridge. In 2005, she was a featured soloist for several performances in Graz, Austria, as an American Institute of Musical Studies festival artist.

A Boston resident and native of North Carolina, Ms. Oettinger holds an M.M. in Vocal Performance from the Boston Conservatory and a B.M. in Vocal Performance from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She currently serves as a Member-at-Large on BOC’s Board of Directors, and served for two seasons as the Artistic Staffing and Auditions Chairperson..
